Those are impressive images of animation... I think back to the days of my childhood and seeing the old favourites like The Jungle Book or Bambi... pleasent times.

Forgive me if being rude but isn't the animation detail shown in a very low quaility? I mean compare it to TLK...
Never tried to compare detail of TLK and old Russian cartoons. You know, one friend of mine said that the first thing he noticed, when watched TLK, is the difference in detail of TLK and, for example, Shrek; but he got used to it after watching the movie three times.

So, even if quality isn't that high there're lots of reasons you won't mind it.

I admit that Athari and you are completely right. However it would not be bad if the animation was better. Still, this style of animation has its own charity. Criticising such things is very difficult because they do not have only one visible side...

I've bought the licence DVD with restored movie! It's so great!

And there are many moments I've never saw in TV version

One more time I can see that the impression of this movie depends on movements more than on outwards.
And for all Bagheera fans screenshot with her cub

(I love her expressions as a whole and this is one of them

)

It is interesting and beautiful indeed. The beauty is in its simplicity.

Yeah... I'm sure

I never finshed watching it... don't remember where I stopped... probably the place where the bear was teaching Mougli to hunt...

I guess I liked Mowgli_russian because that was the one that I saw first. And I read the book first, as well, so by the time I got round to the Disney version, I couldn't understand why Bagheera was male and why Mowgli never grew up to kill Shere Khan.
Though my liking of big cats actually made me like the Disney version, 'cause Shere Khan lives.
I think Russian animation is quite fun. I loved the 3d stuff, like Krokodil Gena, and the 2d as well (troye iz prostokvashino). Has anyone seen Bizarre concept animation of the Gary Bardin studio? It has origami and bits of string, and plastecine men...and there is less abstract stuff, like Chucha. I think that it's quite unique, it's really exploring the medium of animation.
